Rivers State police officers have detained three alleged abductors who killed Nwabueze Nchekwube, one of their victims, after obtaining N6,900,000 from him.
The state’s police authorities reported that on September 19, they captured the suspects in their hideouts in various areas inside the Obio Akpor Local Government Area after acting upon a worrisome information that suggested the kidnapping of one Humphrey Wagbara in Igwuruta-Atali.
Nchekwube, the deceased victim, and Onwuli Jude were abducted on September 14, 2025, from School Road in Igwuruta-Atali.
In a statement to reporters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrests and named the suspects as 25-year-old Bello Abubakar from Sokoto State, 20-year-old Hassan Mohammed from Borno State, and 23-year-old Yusuf Ahmed from Bauchi State.

“The kidnapping of Mercy Chinyere ‘f’ on September 12, 2025, at the same location, where they also collected a ransom of N3,500,000 before releasing her.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one G-3 rifle with Breech Number 10398, one magazine, one Itel phone belonging to Humphrey Wagbara – a kidnapped victim, three short daggers, one Jack knife and one short knife.

“Suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional operational weapons.”
