Widely circulated reports have confirmed that suspected terrorists kidnapped about 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology in Sokoto State while they travelled to their hometowns in Oyo State.
The attackers allegedly killed the bus driver at the scene of the incident, which occurred on a road leading to Oyo State within the past 48 hours.
An Oke-Ogun youth leader who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters in an exclusive interview clarified that the victims were not students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS), as previously reported.
He said the students travelled from Gamji College of Health Technology in Sokoto to Oke-Ogun, specifically Igboho in Oyo State, in a chartered bus.
“Sadly, the unfortunate incident is being confirmed by me because I’m from Oke-Ogun too, and our people have confirmed that it truly happened in the past 48 hours.
“But it wasn’t a bus conveying UDUS students. It was a bus taking students from Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, to Oke-Ogun, Igboho to be precise.
“The driver was killed and all the students were kidnapped. They have reached the Mokwa side,” the youth leader said.
He added that the driver was shot at the scene and that the family buried his remains on Saturday.
Other sources familiar with the incident told SaharaReporters that as many as 18 pupils may have been kidnapped.
According to the sources, the pupils were travelling to their respective hometowns in Oyo State in a chartered bus booked by their school.
The attackers allegedly killed the driver before abducting all the pupils.
Backstory…
The reported abduction comes amid a series of kidnapping incidents involving people connected to Oyo State, raising renewed concerns about the safety of residents travelling across the country.
Just days before the latest report, 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members from Oyo State were abducted by gunmen in Imo State while travelling from Ibadan to their orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom.
Their abductors initially demanded ₦50 million for each victim before later reducing the demand to ₦5 million per person, according to reports.
Recall that an earlier incident occurred in May 2026, when gunmen attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
