Senator Adolphus Wabara, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, has voiced hope that Gov Otti, the governor of Abia State, could think about joining the PDP in advance of his candidacy for a second term.
In the event that Otti chooses to join the PDP, Wabara stated that the party would not think twice about putting him forward as its candidate for governor in 2027. He described the governor as a significant asset to any political party.
The former Senate President revealed this on Sunday in Umuahia while fielding questions from journalists, shortly after the launch of the Abia 25-Year Development Plan by the state government.

“If he makes up his mind to join the Big Umbrella, the party will not hesitate to give him the governorship ticket in 2027,” Wabara said, adding that Otti’s performance in office has made him attractive to several political parties.
According to Wabara, the growing interest in Gov Otti across party lines is a result of his scorecard in governance, which he said would count in his favour in 2027.

Wabara added that the PDP’s National Working Committee, headed by Senator Tanimu Turaki, has worked to reposition and rebrand the party, making it a more credible platform for candidates ahead of the upcoming general elections in Abia State and around the nation.

He stated that the South-East is still the PDP’s traditional heartland and that Gov Otti’s eventual defection would increase the party’s chances and make the region more significant in Nigerian politics.
The chairman of the BoT revealed that party officials were stepping up their attempts to reposition the PDP and draw in progressive people who would aid in its advancement.
Wabara praised Gov Otti for presenting the Abia 25-Year Development Plan, calling it a road map for creating a “new and greater Abia.”

Along with praising the governor’s accomplishments in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, education, industry, and security, he pointed out that the state government’s purchase of electric buses for urban mass transit will alleviate people’ hardships.
“As an elder statesman and stakeholder in Abia politics, I have a moral obligation to acknowledge performance, irrespective of party affiliation.
“Abians are now excited to return home to see things for themselves. Good governance should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan politics”, Wabara stated.
He claimed that Gov Otti had put Abia State back on the path of development that its founders had envisioned and that his prospects of winning in 2027 would be considerably improved by joining the PDP.

Recalling his former praise of the governor during the rebuilding of Aba’s Port Harcourt Road, Wabara pointed out that those who had challenged his position at the time had since been shown to be mistaken.
