The general overseer of Champion Royal Assembly, Prophet Joshua Iginla, has cautioned Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate for the Labour Party, against accepting a supporting position in any new political coalition before the general elections in 2027.
Iginla stated at a live church service on Sunday, July 6, that Obi’s political standing must not be jeopardised in the continuing attempts to assemble an opposition party coalition. He issued a warning, saying that taking a deputy position would reduce Obi’s power and the worth of the political backing he presently has.
“The new coalition that we are doing — don’t go for a second-class citizen,” Iginla said. “If they give you number one, then you are prepared. If they give you a second-class citizen, don’t lose your political assets. Don’t fall into a trap.”
He advised Peter Obi not to make hasty concessions but to exercise caution and hold onto his position. “It is preferable to sell your birthright to Jacob than to wait patiently with your political capital and assets for a period that allows you to breathe properly,” he continued.
Speaking about Peter Obi’s political future, Iginla claimed that becoming president of Nigeria was part of his destiny. But he pointed out that it’s unclear if this would occur in 2027 or before.
“I am a prophet; I am neither here nor there,” he said. “But the person of Peter Obi — it is in his destiny to sit on the number one seat. I cannot tell whether it is now or 2031.”
Iginla called the present leader a “lion” in comments that seemed to be directed at President Bola Tinubu, implying that it would take a political person with similar power and resolve to defeat him.
“The person sitting on the throne is a lion and we need someone who has a lion… to take a step,” he said. “Anything short of that is a waste of political capital.”
“For now, the person sitting there is still seated, and I see the seats all complete. If there is a change, I will give you a spiritual update. But for now, this is how it is,” he added.
He stated that the political system as it stands now is stable, but he promised to give updates if the political climate in the country changed.
