Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to drop out of the 2027 race if Kenneth Okonkwo provides evidence that disqualifies him.
Recall that Obi sued Okonkwo for defamation following his(Okonkwo) appointment as spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former governor of Anambra State sent Okonkwo a pre-action letter demanding that he publicly disclose all the allegedly damaging material he claims to hold against him.
In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi stated that the lawsuit against Okonkwo was meant to force him to provide evidence for his repeated allegations rather than to silence him.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate said Nigerians deserve to know the background and true character of anyone seeking public office before making their choice at the polls.
Obi said, “I want Kenneth Okonkwo to bring out all the ‘hidden things’ that he has on me. If I am not qualified after his revelation, then I’ll stop running for the election.”
He noted that Okonkwo had frequently claimed to possess private information about him from when Okonkwo served as his spokesperson.
Responding to allegations that the lawsuit was an attempt to suppress free expression, the Anambra-born politician stated that the sole objective of the legal action was to force Okonkwo to produce any supporting documentation he holds.
“Kenneth Okonkwo said, as my spokesperson, he had so many hidden things that if he’s provoked or sued, he will bring them out. And that’s the only thing I’m suing him for—to bring those things out,” he added.

Reveal every incriminating detail against Peter Obi

This comes just a month after former presidential candidate of the National Interest Party, Eunice Atuejide, challenged African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo to publicly present any evidence he claims to have against former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in court.
Atuejide made the remarks while reacting to comments by ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme.
The politician, who described herself as a strong supporter of Obi, said she would not support any leader with questionable character or alleged criminal records.
Backstory…
Peter Obi’s remarks are the latest development in his increasingly public exchanges with former Labour Party chieftain and actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo.
Once one of Obi’s most vocal supporters and spokespersons during the 2023 presidential campaign, Okonkwo later parted ways with the Labour Party, citing internal leadership disputes and disagreements over the party’s direction.
Since his exit, he has repeatedly criticised Obi’s political strategy and leadership, while questioning the former Anambra governor’s preparedness for the 2027 presidential election.
