The Lagos State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, has deployed security personnel to Ikola following a violent clash that claimed three lives, left two people injured and resulted in the burning of some buildings.
The police said normalcy had been restored to the area after the incident, which occurred on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
According to a statement by the command, preliminary findings indicated that the violence started after some suspected area boys allegedly stopped a tricycle operator and demanded ₦200 from him.
The rider reportedly refused to pay the money, prompting the group to allegedly seize his tricycle.
The tricycle operator later returned to the area with some individuals, leading to a confrontation between the two groups that reportedly escalated into violence.
Three people were killed in the clash, while two others sustained injuries. Some buildings were also reportedly set ablaze during the incident.
The bodies of the deceased and the injured victims were taken to the Military Hospital in Yaba for medical attention and other necessary procedures.
Following the violence, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, visited the area alongside the Commander of the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Afolabi Owolabi, to assess the situation and coordinate the security response.
The police said personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Task Force, Tactical Squad, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Eko Strike Force and Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) had been deployed to the area.
“The situation is firmly under control, and efforts are ongoing to prevent any further escalation,” the command stated.
The police also confirmed that an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the clash and identify those responsible.
The command assured that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
It appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of increasing tension in the community.
Members of the public were also urged to provide credible information that could assist investigators in establishing the facts and apprehending those responsible.
The police assured residents that security personnel would continue to monitor the area to maintain peace and prevent a recurrence of the violence.
