Human rights activist and #FreeNnamdiKanuNow campaigner, Omoyele Sowore, has been assaulted and re-arrested by the Nigerian Police shortly after his court appearance at the Kuje Magistrate Court on Friday.
The activist had already fulfilled their bail requirements, as did Prince Emmanuel Kanu, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, a former member of Kanu’s legal team, and eleven other individuals.

According to sources, Sowore and 12 others were each given bail of ₦500,000 by the court, with two sureties who lived in the Federal Capital Territory and had three years of tax clearance and proper identity.
However, despite Sowore’s prior court-granted bail, police officers allegedly pulled him into a waiting car.
Sources revealed that while his legal team worked to finalize his bail conditions, police officers led by the Investigating Police Officer, IPO, CSP Ilyasu Barau, Officer in Charge of Anti-Vice under the DC-CID, FCT Command, allegedly attacked Sowore, punched him, and forced him into a police van.

Witnesses said the activist resisted when officers attempted to take him away without providing any explanation.
“The IPO punched him, dragged him on the ground, and forced him into the van. They really manhandled him,” an eyewitness said.
“When we asked to see the remand order they claimed to have obtained, the officer refused to show any document.

“The police took Sowore away to Kuje Prison despite his bail, citing a secret remand order,” another source added.
He is expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, on a fresh charge related to his claim that President Bola Tinubu is a criminal.
Recall that the activist was arrested yesterday following his involvement in the #freeNnamdiKanuNow protest along with 11 others.
