Police to Safeguard End Bad Governance Demonstrations

IGP Directs Police to Safeguard EndBadGovernance Demonstrations.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed key police officials across Nigeria to ensure the safety of protesters participating in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. This directive came in response to a request from human rights lawyer Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), who sought police protection for the protesters.

The IGP’s order, issued in a letter dated July 29, 2024, was communicated through CP Johnson Adenola, his Principal Staff Officer. The letter outlined that the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (Operations and Intelligence), the Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) at the Zonal Police Headquarters, and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in each state are to provide necessary protection during the protests.

Additionally, the letter revealed that the IGP is also interested in meeting with Adegboruwa to discuss further details and ensure the effective protection of the protesters.
