From next month, more LGAs may lack elected officials as tenures expire in Jigawa and Rivers. Currently, only 290 LGAs (41.31%) across 16 states and FCT have elected officers. Insecurity, funding issues, and legal battles hamper council polls. In Kebbi, sole administrators oversee LGAs, their tenure possibly extended due to election delays by KSIEC. IPAC seeks restoration of democracy, but the state assembly supports caretaker appointments. Lack of funds hampers KSIEC’s readiness. 20 states have unelected LGAs, totaling 454, with uneven distribution across zones.
