Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has said that rising insecurity and economic hardship in Nigeria could undermine President Bola Tinubu’s chances of re-election if they are not urgently addressed.
Speaking in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on the country’s current situation, Dalung said many Nigerians are becoming increasingly frustrated due to growing insecurity, unemployment, and economic difficulties.
He noted that these issues remain the key concerns of voters ahead of future elections.
According to him, “The main offense that Tinubu would have committed in the eyes of voters would be insecurity.”
He added that economic hardship and alleged poor management of the economy are also major factors shaping public perception of the administration.
“Insecurity, untold hardship, mismanagement of the economy, corruption, unemployment,” he said.
Dalung further argued that ordinary citizens are not the ones benefiting from ongoing reforms, insisting that only those in government appear to be experiencing improvements.
“The only people from 2023 to now that have been transformed are Tinubu and people in his government,” he stated.
He said the current situation reflects widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians, who are struggling under prevailing economic conditions.
Dalung also raised concerns about rising tensions in parts of the Southwest, particularly Ibadan, warning that such developments should not be ignored.
“Have you ever imagined what is happening in the Southwest? In Ibadan… you could hear women coming out shouting ‘ole, ole,’” he said.
He cautioned that such incidents should not be overlooked by the government, warning that they could lead the country down a familiar and troubling political path.
