Bandits attacked a mosque in Zamfara, abducting over 30 worshippers.

Armed bandits attacked a Mosque in Tsafe town, Zamfara State, abducting over 30 worshippers during morning prayers on Thursday. The assailants, known for terrorizing the area, invaded the mosque and whisked the victims into the forest after shooting sporadically with sophisticated weapons.

“We were about to start the morning prayer today.

“We were about to start the morning prayer today, Thursday when suddenly they (bandits) entered the mosque and directed everybody to go out and follow them,” a resident, Garba told newsmen. The resident continued: “Everybody scampered for safety but the bandits blocked everywhere and warned us that they would kill anybody who tried to run away.

Also, one of the community leaders, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the Community Protection Guards (CPG) have pursued the bandits in order to rescue the kidnapped worshippers.

The Defence Headquarters Abuja, says troops have neutralized 974 terrorists.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the State Police Command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, for comments proved futile, as numerous attempts to contact him via telephone were unsuccessful.

In a statement, the Defence Headquarters in Abuja announced that troops had neutralized 974 terrorists, arrested 621 individuals, and rescued 466 kidnapped hostages during February 2024.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, assured in the statement on Thursday that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are committed to eliminating all threats to citizen safety and security.

Gen. Buba disclosed that troops conducted synchronized strikes, involving both ground and air forces, on terrorist hideouts, resulting in the significant elimination of enemy forces.

He emphasized, “The armed forces are resolute in ending terrorism and insecurity nationwide, taking concrete steps towards creating a safer environment for citizens by eliminating all threats to their safety and security.”

“Troops executed synchronized strikes involving both ground and air forces on terrorist strongholds, resulting in a significant reduction of enemy forces. These strikes have unquestionably dealt a severe blow to the terrorists.

“The armed forces remain dedicated to conducting operations in support of national security interests. Consequently, in February, troops achieved significant successes in theaters across all six geopolitical zones of the country.

“In February 2024, troops achieved the following: neutralized 974 terrorists, arrested 621 individuals, and rescued 466 kidnapped hostages. Additionally, troops recovered 1,573 assorted weapons, 23,345 assorted ammunitions, and prevented oil theft, estimated at over ₦8 billion (₦8,006,996,894.00).”
