Bail of ₦100 million granted to former minister Sirika, his daughter, and others by the court.
Former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, along with his daughter and two others, has been granted bail by a Federal High Court in Abuja in the sum of ₦100 million with two sureties each. The court requires the sureties to possess landed properties in Abuja and demonstrate financial means through an affidavit. Additionally, the defendants are prohibited from traveling abroad without the court’s permission. Justice Oriji ordered that failure to meet bail conditions would result in the defendants being remanded in prison custody.
The allegations against Sirika involve an alleged ₦2.7 billion fraud, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accusing him of awarding contracts improperly and abusing his office. Among the charges is the awarding of a consultancy contract for the Nigerian Air start-up and the influence on the award of a contract for the Apron Extension at Katsina Airport. These actions are said to contravene the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.
