Despite the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, there have been some worries about a future world between Russia and its allies against the US and NATO. The Swedish government has taken precautionary measures to begin to distribute five million booklets to people, asking them to prepare for the prospect of war.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) distributed the brochure, titled ‘If Crisis or War Comes’, which provides detailed information on what its citizens should know or how to prepare for emergencies such as war, natural catastrophes, cyber attacks, and terrorism.
The booklet’s introduction reads, “An insecure world requires preparedness. The military threat to Sweden has increased, and we must prepare for the worst—an armed attack.”
Some sections of the booklet have the government cautioning its citizens about the dangers of nuclear weapons.
The booklet further reads, “The global security situation increases the risks that nuclear weapons could be used. In the event of an attack with nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, take cover in the same way as in an air attack.”
Furthermore, “Shelter provides the best protection. After a couple of days, the radiation has decreased significantly.”
Just like in the movies, the citizens will be notified of attacks via radio and should seek refuge in basements or subways if they have no other alternative.
Another phrase moved from the center of the booklet to the new version reads: “If Sweden is attacked by another country, we will never give up.” All information indicating that resistance would cease is wrong.
