Abia’s Alex Otti Addresses Labour Party Exit
The fact that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has denied the rumour that he is perfecting plans to dump the Labour Party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor declared that he remained an LP member, the platform that brought him to power, whom he had no plans to abandon, contrary to speculations.
Gov. Otti who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, flatly denied holding any nocturnal meeting with Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, to perfect the purported plans to join the APC.

He dismissed alleged plans to move to the APC as a ruse, urging the public to ignore it. Citing the fact that he would not make any political decision that had huge impact on the people of Abia State without consulting them.
Besides, he argued that intense political activities in the country would not be required for a little over two years until 2027 came along, advising that the people should be more concerned with governance and not politics.
For the full back of a statement on a Saturday issued by Ekeoma: The report that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti, OFR, held a meeting with Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State over his alleged planned defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), is false, baseless and unfounded. It is completely devoid of substance and thus should be disregarded.
After the National Economic Council meeting on Thursday, April 24, Governor Otti and a few of his colleagues joined Governor Uzodinma to attend the birthday celebration of his twin daughters-an event that had nothing to do with politics.

Indeed, it is natural for the impressive performance, popularity, and towering credentials of Governor Otti as the Governor of Abia State to attract admiration and permutations from interested parties, however, political decisions of Governor Otti, particularly those that would have huge impact and far-reaching consequences on Abians, would at all times be taken in conjunction with majority of Abians and his allies. Such decisions must justify themselves and be perceived as being in the overriding interest of Abia people.
This is the strong contention of the governor Otti that if political activities have begun to gather steam again, it will be very unfair to the Abia electorate if we allow politics for 2027-and not governance-to dominate conversations less than two years into the administration.
Lastly, we wish to state in unequivocal terms that Governor Otti remains a member of the Labour Party and is currently not planning or discussing with anyone to defect to the APC or any other party for that matter, as falsely alleged.”
In a related development, yesterday, a member from the House of Representatives representing the Ideato Federal Constituency, Mr. Ikenga Ugochinyere said that two sitting governors, and 40 lawmakers are preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next weeks.
“Because really, where was God when you decided to give members of the APC party structures? Where was God when you continuously funded a Dan Obi and all those other treacherous aspects hell-bent on destroying the party? Today, you talk about having our faith in God’s hands while giving Wike the go-ahead to the APC government while being in the PDP.

“Of course, you incite them to decamp in Delta and all that, but then your mouth talks about our faith being in the hands of God. You occupy a position you have no legal rights to. It is on this that I want to alert our party members that Damagum and Anyanwu have perfected another plot to ensure that the NEC meeting of May to where these issues will be rectified does not hold. They also perfected a plan to ensure that August conventional does not hold unless they will be the ones to be re-elected.
I need to tell our party members that they are crafting a very absurd and insulting plan-to re-elect Damagum and Anyanwu as party officers in August. Where it is not possible and where they cannot get a stooge, they will ensure that the convention is aborted. This one is really painful. Damagum is still sitting there saying, “Our faith is in God’s hands.”
Let me put this before the members of the NWC that the entire world is looking at them and, therefore, has to do two very critical actions if they want to be taken seriously.
“One, the unconditional expulsion of Samuel Anyanwu and Nyesom Wike from the party. Are we cowards? This is the demand of stakeholders of the party. This is one a Nigerian cannot take the party seriously. If ordinary expulsion of those who are committed to killing the party cannot be carried out by the NWC, those who want the right to be done in the NWC are in majority. Therefore, convene an NWC meeting with or without Damagum and carry out this action. Yes, there will be turbulence at the initial stage but we will survive it. I am asking members of the NWC, those who are progressives, who are a majority, this is the time to act.”
