The opposition coalition movement has directed its members to fully resign from their membership of respective political parties and join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The resolution was made during a closed-door meeting called by Senator David Mark, the ADC’s acting national chairman, on Thursday.
Additionally, the alliance announced its decision to halt all existing registration procedures for the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), which it had previously submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s spokesperson, claims that all party members have decided to back the winner of the ADC presidential primary in advance of the general elections in 2027.
In a post on X, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar acknowledged his attendance and explained that the event was a part of a larger opposition movement.
“I am currently at the stakeholders meeting of the Coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja,” his post read.

“It’s a meeting of the Nigerian people against the oligarchs who promote poverty and insecurity in the land.”
The opposition alliance is committed to offering a strong challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s government, the former vice president stressed.
Among other prominent figures from the coalition movement, key officials attended the conference, including former Rivers State governor Rotimi Ameachi, former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Anambra governor Peter Obi, and former Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal.
The ADC was chosen as the coalition’s political party in July, and it is on its platform that it hopes to unseat the current All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
Atiku resigned because of irreconcilable divisions that had arisen inside the former ruling party, he wrote in a letter dated July 14, 2025, to the Chairman of the PDP, Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area (LGA) of Adamawa State.
He added that the party’s current direction, which he believes deviates from the core values it upheld, is the reason he felt compelled to split from it.
However, Obi has not yet formally defected to the ADC.
