The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has fired back at Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed dismissing recent remarks by the 2023 Labour Party vice-presidential candidate and describing his criticism of the opposition coalition as “personal opinions” that do not reflect the ADC’s stance.
The ADC underlined its commitment to bringing opposition forces together in advance of the general elections in 2027 in a statement signed by Jackie Wayas, the party’s deputy national publicity secretary.

During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Senator Baba-Ahmed accused the opposition coalition of “deceiving Nigerians” and asserted that it was unable to save the country from underdevelopment. Additionally, he stated that he planned to run in 2027 with Mr. Peter Obi.
However, the ADC emphasised that their alliance is still a team effort to offer a strong challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s government.
According to the statement, the alliance includes well-known figures like Mr. Peter Obi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, Senator David Mark, former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
According to the ADC, these leaders came together following extensive consultations in order to provide capable, caring leadership and to prioritise the interests of the country over partisan differences.

The party noted that a prominent coalition member, Mr. Peter Obi, had openly supported the ADC as the party’s platform for the 2027 elections. He underlined the coalition’s dedication to cooperating to provide capable and sympathetic leadership that puts Nigerians’ wellbeing first.
Insisting that a new Nigeria is achievable, Obi emphasised that no one group can transform Nigeria on its own and urged unity to destroy the systems of poverty and insecurity.
Senator Baba-Ahmed’s comments were entirely his own, the ADC clarified.

“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed’s assertions are his personal opinions and do not reflect the position of the ADC or its coalition partners,” Wayas stated.
