Atiku Criticizes Tinubu, Demands Explanation for Oando’s Swift Approval in AGIP/ENI Deal.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on the Nigerian government to clarify why Oando Plc, a company linked to President Bola Tinubu’s nephew, received expedited approval to acquire the onshore assets of AGIP and ENI. Atiku criticized the preferential treatment given to Oando while other significant deals, such as Shell/Renaissance and Mobil/Seplat, remain stalled.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku accused the Tinubu administration of implementing a “sham subsidy regime” and misleading the public about removing fuel subsidies. He also expressed concerns over the government’s alleged failure to properly address the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) mortgaging the nation’s oil assets.
Atiku further criticized the government’s handling of the ongoing petrol scarcity and its impact on the economy, accusing it of using the subsidy regime as a means to fund future elections. He expressed worries about rising human rights abuses under Tinubu’s administration, particularly the unlawful detention of journalists and whistleblowers, urging the President to take action to prevent potential international sanctions.
