Abia State supporters of Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, also referred to as the “Obidents,” have urged former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to put aside his rumoured 2027 presidential aspirations and support Obi in choosing the coalition African American Congress, or ADC, as his presidential candidate.
To commemorate Obi’s 64th birthday, they held large demonstrations on Saturday and made the demand.
The nonviolent demonstration known as “one million man-march for Obi” was staged concurrently in the towns of Ohafia, Uzuakoli, Aba, the commercial hub, Umuahia, the state capital.
Speaking to reporters in Umuahia, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, the chairman of the organising committee for Abia State and one of the coordinators of the Obidents in the state, urged Atiku to put aside his aspirations to become president in favour of Peter Obi, who, he claimed, has the immediate solution to Nigeria’s problems if given the chance.
While acknowledging the former vice president’s efforts and contributions to Nigeria’s progress, Dr. Obiesili urged him to step aside and back Peter Obi’s presidential campaign.
While applauding Atiku and other opposition leaders for uniting against President Bola Tinubu’s reelection campaign, he suggested that the alliance give the South its presidential ticket instead.

” We thank those behind the formation of the coalition. But we appeal that the coalition should consider Obi for its presidential ticket because he has the national appeal needed to uproot the ruling APC.
” We plead with Atiku to please step aside for Obi. Atiku has tried his best for Nigeria but his greatest sacrifice and gift to Nigeria will be to support Obi get the ADC presidential ticket in 2027 so that Nigeria can move forward. Nigeria needs an Obi for a quick fix, and in the interest of all. He has what is needed to pull Nigeria out of the woods!”
