The Federal Government has recently launched and made public, Nigeria’s National Volunteer Database, as well as the plan for the National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism.
The database, launched in collaboration with Natview Technology by the Nigerian National Volunteer Service under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, aims to make volunteerism a key component of Nigeria’s long-term development initiatives.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Olubunmi Olorunpomi, Head of Communications at Natview Technology, the initiative, which was launched on Wednesday in Abuja, was titled “Launching the National Volunteer Database in Nigeria and the Blueprint of the National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism.”
This launch is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote civic involvement among residents, with a focus on long-term national development.
According to SGF George Akume, who was represented by Director Ifiok Abia, stated that the National Volunteer Database gives Nigerians structured and easy access to volunteer options that match the country’s socioeconomic, environmental, and sociocultural long-term plans.
He stated, “The blueprint for the National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism, approved by the Federal Executive Council in December 2020, provides a detailed framework for organized and inclusive volunteerism across the country.” The NNVS administers the policy, which prioritizes vital areas like as health, education, the environment, and social work.
According to Director Abia, the government’s goal in establishing an inclusive volunteer structure is to “empower individuals, organizations, and communities to take collective action” in driving the country’s growth and development.
The SGF representative further stated that the National Volunteer Database is intended to make volunteer participation more accessible, efficient, and meaningful for both volunteers and organizations.
“It offers several unique features, including a User-Friendly Volunteer Registration and Matching system that allows citizens to register, specify skills, and be connected with volunteer opportunities that suit their interests and expertise.”
Abia added that the platform has a “Community Project Listings” feature, which allows NGOs, community groups, and government agencies to submit extensive descriptions of volunteer opportunities.
“This ensures that potential volunteers are fully informed about project requirements and expectations before committing.”
Furthermore, the database includes “Built-In Communication and Impact Assessment” capabilities that enable direct interaction between volunteers and project organizers.
This system also provides feedback systems for evaluating project outcomes, which promotes accountability and continual improvement in volunteer programs.
He went on to say, “The government’s goal with this platform is to foster an environment of civic responsibility and active citizenship, allowing all Nigerians to contribute to nation-building.”
“This initiative is expected to strengthen community bonds across regions and backgrounds, enabling people from different parts of Nigeria to work collaboratively to tackle various socio-economic and environmental challenges.”
Nuradeen Maidoki, CEO of Natview Technology, emphasized the platform’s relevance, saying, “Several Nigerian millennials desire to volunteer but don’t know where to start. We are delighted about the NNVS web platform, which will provide a comprehensive directory of volunteer opportunities.
