The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed hope that Nigeria’s presidency will one day come to the Southeast, saying he himself could become president when the time is right, according to God’s will.

David Umahi made the remark on Saturday during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and his delegation. The team was in Ebonyi State to inspect ongoing federal projects.
The former governor of Ebonyi State said the people of the Southeast should “re-engage” politically, stressing that the presidency cannot be achieved by sentiment alone.
He said: “We have to support other regions, and at the time of God, nobody will stop it.”
Speaking jokingly, David Umahi added “and who knows, you know, whether that time it will be me.”
The Minister also highlighted Nigeria’s improved economy under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Umahi cited a drop in inflation to 21.8% and a foreign reserve of over $40 billion, noting that international bodies and figures like Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have praised the president’s reforms.
He contrasted the current administration’s efforts with his experience as a former governor, stating, “I didn’t witness anything like Federal presence here.”
