Solomon Dalung, a former Youth and Sports Minister, has attributed the recent wave of defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the need for shelter from alleged corruption investigations.
Hours after the most recent wave of jump shipping, in which the Delta Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, disbanded and joined the APC, Dalung made his remarks on Tuesday during his interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

Dalung made this remarks while responding to the delta state governor. He disagreed with Oborevwori’s claim that the move was in the best interests of the oil-rich state.
He said “The wave of defections or the gale of defections of the political elites who are repositioning themselves either for survival, protection, or evasion of prosecution cannot be taken seriously by students of Nigerian politics,”

He maintained that voters should have the sole right to decide whether or not an elected official should defect.
