A member of the House of Representatives from the Labour Party (LP) has switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power in Enugu State.
Sunday Umeha On Saturday, Umeha, who is the representative for the Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency in Enugu State, declared his intention to defect during a political rally held at Ibagwa Aka Community in the Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area.
At the event, Mr. Umeha claimed that the ongoing difficulties plaguing the LP at the federal and state levels made his departure necessary.
He claimed that he has been unable to adequately represent his constituents due to the crises.
The congressman added that he chose to join the ruling APC in order to establish a connection with the centre and get his people “closer to power.”

According to Mr. Umeha, the APC has better represented Igbo interests at the federal level than the PDP.
He listed some of the historic initiatives the APC-led government has completed in the southeast, including the rebuilding of the Enugu-Onitsha and Enugu-Port Harcourt dual carriageways.
For the first time since the party’s founding more than ten years ago, the party has an elected official in Enugu State thanks to the most recent development.
