The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared a three-day mourning period in honour of its late pioneer chairman, Chief Solomon Aguele.

According to a statement by Chris Osa Nehikhare, Publicity Secretary of the State Caretaker Committee, the mourning period begins on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
During this time, all political activities and engagements of the party across the state will be suspended.
He added that a condolence register has been opened at the Party Secretariat, 20 Aiguobasimwin Crescent, Benin City, for members, leaders, and the public to pay their respects.
He said the Edo PDP family remains united in honouring the legacy of its late pioneer state chairman whose leadership and contributions to the growth of the party would never be forgotten.
Recalls that the party had announced on August 18, 2025, the passage of its first state chairman.
The party said the late Chief Aguele served the party between 1999 and 2007.

It also added that he was a committed leader whose steadfastness, wisdom, and devotion to democratic ideals laid the strong foundation upon which the party continues to stand even today.
“His leadership during the formative years of our great party in Edo State was pivotal to the growth and successes recorded.
“Chief Aguele will be remembered for his humility, loyalty, and enduring contributions to the PDP and the development of Edo State,” the party stated.
