Rev. Sam Aboyeji, the General Overseer of the Foursquare Church in Nigeria, has warned political players from using social events as campaign platforms in the run-up to the 2027 elections, emphasising that it is too soon to evaluate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The Foursquare church overseer called early political campaigns a major distraction for the ruling government and urged leaders to instead concentrate on addressing the nation’s growing security and economic challenges while speaking at a press conference to announce events marking the church’s 70th anniversary celebration.

“We should allow the government to work and not be distracted by early politicking,” Aboyeji said. “The challenges Nigerians are facing require total focus and urgent solutions, not premature campaigns.”

The priest was joined by other leaders and members of the platinum jubilee organising committee during the press briefing, which took place at the church’s national headquarters in Yaba, Lagos. The weeklong celebration, which has as its theme “70 Years of a Complete Gospel,” is set for July 21–27, 2025.

Along with providing a chance to honour significant figures who have contributed to the church’s expansion both domestically and internationally, the anniversary will also act as a reunion for former members.
