Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today”, the minister assured corps members of the current Tinubu led administration’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations to corps members.

Recall that in September of 2024, the NYSC had announced to begin payment of N77000 allowance to its serving corps members following the new minimum wage. However after several months, corps members are yet to receive the said amount.
NaijaEyes also reported that NYSC had released and estimated budget over N30bn for payment of corps members allowance following the N77000 allowance payments.

The minister for youth development said “The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate, but it will happen. You saw the new DG (Olakunle Nafiu) saying that you will get it, and they’re asking him a question ‘What are those that are going out now, are they going to receive it (backlog)?’ He said we have your details.”

“I’ve explained this several times. Some people say I always say, ‘It is a process.’ But it’s seriously a process. It was not in the budget when the president announced it, and for some agencies and parastatals, you need your salary to be in the budget before it is paid.”
The NYSC DG Brigadier General Nafiu has also confirmed that the new N77000 allowance amount will take effect from March citing budgetary constraints as the reason for the bottleneck.
However, the minister on Television revealed that the necessary approvals have been acquired.
“The budgetary allocation has been done. We are done with the process, it has been approved, it has been signed, and now they can start paying it. He added.
