The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has landed in Benue State and has directed that more tactical teams be sent there right away in response to a string of horrific attacks that have claimed many lives.
The Nigeria Police Force acknowledged the development in a brief statement issued on X.

“IGP arrives Benue, orders for additional deployment of tactical teams,” the statement read.
Following a two-day killing spree by suspected herders, the deployment coincides with growing public outrage and uproar and social media calls for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Benue.

Previous reports revealed that at least 45 verified deaths had occurred in Guma Local Government Area, but local officials believe the death toll may be as high as 200. Security officers and entire families were among the casualties, according to sources.
The most recent attack being the attack on Tse Yange, a Tiv dominated community in Nasarawa state, the killing of the community chairman and abduction of several others.
