The acting National Chairman of SDP, Dr. Sadìq Gombe, made this appeal in a statement released on Friday in Abuja, signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba.
Gombe noted the widespread enthusiasm surrounding Amupitan’s appointment and the praise he has received as the president’s ideal choice, expressing hope that the new INEC chairman will bring tangible joy to Nigerians through his actions.
He emphasized that SDP’s expects Amupitan to prioritize Nigeria’s genuine interests and focus on democratic consolidation, especially during the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti, and Osun states.
According to him, these three elections will serve as critical tests of Amupitan’s ability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gombe highlighted Amupitan’s impressive background, esteemed reputation, integrity, and competence—qualities endorsed by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo at the recent Council of State meeting. He expressed optimism that this national enthusiasm would translate into meaningful achievements.

He also expressed confidence that Amupitan would perform his duties with utmost integrity and honor, building upon the significant reforms introduced by his predecessors.
“It is hoped that the new chairman will give rule of law a pride of place, respect the sovereignty of political parties and the commission will not be meddlesome in their internal affairs under his watch.
“We the SDP expect he will engender positive spirit by boosting staff morale, improve the negative public rejection of the commission and increase its credibility,” he said.
