President Bola Tinubu has come under fire by the ADC over the heighening insecurity. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) urged President Tinubu to get out of the Presidential Villa and speak with regular Nigerians in order to obtain a realistic assessment of the security situation in the nation.
The claim was made by opposition coalition spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday.
He contended that close aides and state governors are misleading the president about the true level of insecurity in Nigeria.
“I actually think President Tinubu needs to leave the Villa and go on the streets and talk to people and stop listening to this kind of narrative [that insecurity has been degraded],” Abdullahi said.
“He should stop listening to state governors who are just saying what they think they need to say to endear themselves to power rather than tell him the true feelings of the people.”
Abdullahi’s statement came as a response to remarks made by Daniel Bwala, President Tinubu’s communications aide, who asserted that the current government has decreased insecurity in Nigeria.

Bwala had mentioned progress in states like Plateau and Benue, as well as a drop in violent incidents that were ascribed to unidentified gunmen and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“Insecurity has been degraded to a large extent,” Bwala said during the programme. “What we are seeing in Nigeria is criminal tendencies that have no core relationship with whether somebody is governing well or not, because it exists in every part of this world.”
However, the ADC spokesman strongly disagreed, stressing that such claims give the president a false sense of security.
“I feel sorry for President Tinubu because if this is the kind of narrative that he gets to hear all the time, then it is natural and obvious that he lives in a bubble,” Abdullahi said.
He emphasised that criminal elements continue to control a number of localities throughout the nation, endangering the lives and means of subsistence of regular Nigerians on a daily basis.
