Kaduna, Zaria protests cause N700bn losses in 5 days.
Protests against hunger turned violent in Kaduna and Zaria, leading to a dusk-to-dawn curfew. The nationwide unrest, which has also impacted Lagos, Abuja, and other cities, has resulted in over N700 billion in losses in just five days. Kaduna and Kano experienced significant economic damage, with Lagos losing N600 billion and Kano over N100 billion.
Criminal elements hijacked the protests, engaging in looting and vandalism. In Kaduna, clashes between hoodlums and security forces led to property damage and a temporary loss of control over an Armoured Personnel Carrier. In Zaria, looting was reported, with two hoodlums killed during clashes.
In Abuja, businesses faced major losses and disruptions, while protests in Lagos continued despite President Tinubu’s address. In Zamfara, protesters waved Russian flags, seeking international attention, though the Russian government disclaimed involvement.
Despite the curfew, some hoodlums defied it, leading to further unrest in Plateau State.
