The committee was officially inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim, representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. This was announced in a press release by the SSG’s Press Secretary, Musa Tanko Muhammad.

The panel is chaired by Professor Auwalu Yadudu and co-chaired by Professor Hafiz Abubakar. Its members include legal experts, academics, traditional rulers, and representatives from civil society.

The committee’s mandate includes addressing key issues such as local government autonomy, state policing, resource control, and the role of traditional institutions.

Alhaji Umar Farouq Ibrahim urged members to actively engage the public and produce a comprehensive position paper that accurately represents Kano State’s interests. He also announced the creation of a secretariat, led by Alhaji Umar Muhammad Jalo, to provide administrative support for the committee.

Speaking on behalf of the committee chair, Professor Habu Muhammad conveyed Professor Auwalu Yadudu’s gratitude to the governor for the trust placed in him and his commitment to carrying out the task with integrity and diligence.

The committee’s final recommendations will form the basis of Kano State’s contributions to the national constitutional amendment process.
