Alhaji Lawal Ismail-Yakawada, the chairman of the North West Development Commission (NWDC), has described Kebbi State as Nigeria’s new food basket.
Benue State was previously referred to as the food basket of the nation.
Speaking at a Commission delegation’s visit to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, the states capital, Yakawada emphasized the state’s enormous agricultural resources and its vital role in the nation’s food production.

He continued by commending Kebbi State for its key role in the nation’s food production industry and reaffirming that the NWDC is dedicated to supporting the state’s initiatives to open up further avenues for agricultural expansion.
He said, “The delegation’s visit aims to seek the governor’s support and strengthen the Commission’s partnership with the state government,”
“Kebbi has become the food basket of the nation due to its immense agricultural resources,” Yakawada remarked.
“We are proud to partner with you to unlock more opportunities in this sector.”

Nasir Idris, the governor of Kebbi State, had also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the creation of the North West Development Commission (NWDC).
