Presidency denies plans for state of emergency in Kano, refutes Kwankwaso.
The Presidency and Kano state Commissioner of Police have responded to allegations made by Rabiu Kwankwaso regarding the Federal Government’s alleged plans to declare a state of emergency in Kano State. Kwankwaso, speaking at an event in Madobi, accused the government of compromising security by not removing heavy security personnel guarding the deposed Emir of Kano.
In response, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga dismissed Kwankwaso’s claims as mere rumors, emphasizing that any declaration of a state of emergency requires involvement of the National Assembly, which is currently in recess. He clarified that the Federal Government has no such plans.
Similarly, Kano state Commissioner of Police Ussain Gumel affirmed that the police have a duty to protect all parties involved in the emirate crisis impartially. He mentioned receiving court orders related to the situation and forwarding them to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice for guidance.
Both officials urged the public to remain patient and calm while awaiting further developments from the relevant authorities regarding the emirate crisis in Kano.
