NYSC denies service year extension for corps member who started #30daysrant challenge
The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has denied allegations of extending the service year of the Lagos corps member who started the #30days rant challenge, Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, for criticising the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that the corps member became popular on social media following her public criticism of the present administration, which she described as worsening economic conditions.

Uguamaye also attacked the President, calling him a “terrible leader” and casting doubt on the government’s attempts to lessen the suffering of the populace.

Following the viral video, Uguamaye shared another video on her TikTok to warn the public that she was being threatened by NYSC officials.

She stated that she had merely told the truth about the state of the nation and that some NYSC officials were requesting that she took down the video adding that as a serving corps member, she shouldn’t have criticked the government.

Rita Uguamaye,

Following her claims, a number of people denounced the said threat to her life, including human rights activist Omoyele Sowore and former Vice President Abubakar Atiku.

Sharing a news caption on Tuesday that read, “NYSC punitively extends Raye’s service year by 2 months for criticising Tinubu’s administration over hardship”, Sowore vowed to protest at the NYSC passing out parade.

When reached on Tuesday, Carol Embu, the acting NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, stated that when a corps member is near death, the choice to prolong their service year is made.

According to her, if such an action were to be taken, certain rules would be adhered to.

“NYSC is not an irresponsible organisation; we work with rules and regulations. She is still serving; if she has any issues, we will wait and see,” Embu said.
