Ogie was chosen as Ighodalo’s running mate for Edo 2024.
Following the announcement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of Mr. Osarodion Ogie, the Secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG), as the running mate to its Governorship Candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, some All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the state plan to join the PDP.
Insiders indicate that the defectors are pointing to a crisis in the APC over their governorship candidate’s emergence, despite intervention from President Bola Tinubu and the issue’s resolution. A chieftain of the APC stated, “We are pleased to support the PDP with Osarodion Ogie’s emergence because we trust him, have worked with him before, and are ready to shift our support to him for success.”
Meanwhile, the Okpebholo family, including prominent cleric Rev. Matthew Okpebholo, has endorsed Ighodalo’s candidacy, solidifying their support during Ighodalo’s visit to Bishop Okpebholo.
Patrick Okpebholo, a family member, confirmed the family’s backing of Ighodalo, stating that the visit was strategic in securing victory for the PDP in the September 21 Edo governorship election.
He emphasized the patriarch’s influence in determining political outcomes in Esanland and parts of Edo State, despite not officially aligning with any political party.
