El-Rufai had revealed that Amaechi, while still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), financially supported the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011. According to El-Rufai, Amaechi provided funds that enabled the CPC to hold its national convention that year.
El-Rufai had said: “Let me tell you people something, in 2011 when we were in CPC, we were to go to the convention and we didn’t have money.
“Amaechi was then the governor of Rivers State under the PDP. I don’t know how he got to know, then he asked how much was needed to hold the convention, and he gave the money. It was the money we used to organise the 2011 convention.”
However, Olayinka said the same Amaechi led a rebellion against former President Goodluck Jonathan as a PDP governor.
Posting on X, Olayinka wrote: “In that 2011, Rotimi Amaechi was a PDP governor. He sponsored CPC then. The same Amaechi led the rebellion against President Goodluck Jonathan.
“That’s one of the people talking to you about Kolision.”
