The PDP’s leadership crisis in Imo State has gotten worse after 83 disgruntled members sued Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, the party’s state chairman, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and others over the state congress’s alleged exclusionary and unlawful behaviour.
The suit was filed in the Federal High Court in Owerri, and the members are attempting to remove Nwachukwu and other party leaders.

According to the plaintiffs, led by Lambert Eze, the party allegedly excluded duly elected delegates from Ideato North and South local government areas during the state congress on August 31, 2024, which produced Nwachukwu and other state executive members. The plaintiffs maintain that this was “unlawful, null, and void.” The party is accused of violating both the Electoral Act, 2022 and its own constitution.
The PDP national body and ten other people have also joined the lawsuit, including Hon. Chris Ozoemenam and Hon. Dr. Sylvester Durukwuaku, the party’s caretaker leaders in the Ideato North and Ideato South local government areas.
The plaintiffs are requesting that the court declare the congress void, prevent the incumbent authorities from posing as executives, and mandate a new, democratic congress that is attended by all eligible delegates.

The case was filed through their lawyer, K.U. Alisigwe of Ononaku Chambers, Owerri, and was designated FHC/OW/CS/51/2025.
