PDP never asked me not to serve in Tinubu’s Govt – Wike

Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), denied on Monday that his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would impose sanctions on him for accepting a ministerial post in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet in 2023.

“I wrote to the party at the zonal and national levels, informing them of my decision and that there was no opposition,” Wike stated during a Media Chat in Abuja.

He also challenged the party’s governors to refute the accusation if it was false, accusing them of trying to have their friends appointed to positions in the Tinubu administration.

He said; “As PDP governors then and the so-called leaders today, who produced state and National Assembly members 100 percent? Who produced Governor? Who? Olabode George supported Labour Party. I said I would not support because there was no likelihood that he would win. So Olabode George and some of us, we said look, you have to support a Southern candidate. Chose whoever you want. We all agreed. What offence have I committed by supporting Asiwaju?

“I am still in PDP. I worked hard for the party. I have not seen anybody who will have the guts to tell me, Wike, you are not a member of the party. Who is that? What is his contribution to the party that is more than me”, he queried.

Wike further denied that he might have received criticism from some members of the elite for enforcing the ground rent payment requirements, claiming that he enjoys stomping on large people’s toes.

He claimed that while the elite travel to other nations to observe how contemporary societies are managed, some of them return to Nigeria and disobey basic laws.

Declaring that “something will happen,” he claimed that the time of impunity, when some members of the elite believed they could break the law and nothing would happen, was ended.
