The ruling Peoples Democratic Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s Osun State chapter battled Monday over the opposition party’s demand that Governor Ademola Adeleke be ousted in the 2026 governorship election.
The NNPP criticized Adeleke’s leadership in a statement issued by Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the party’s chairman, claiming that it lacked direction and was more concerned with individual interests than the advancement of the state.

He warned that the state’s prosperity would suffer if political parties did not work together to present the best candidate for the next elections.
Odeyemi said, “Osun deserves better than the present governor. We need a leader with vast knowledge about governance who can rise above political sentiments and truly serve the people.”
The Osun State PDP, however, reacted quickly, rejecting Odeyemi’s allegations as baseless and claiming that he lacked the requisite expertise to evaluate Adeleke’s performance.
The PDP emphasized the governor’s accomplishments, claiming that they refuted the charges made by the NNPP.
In a statement signed by Oladele Bamiji, its Director of Media and Publicity, the PDP noted that Adeleke’s administration had successfully built more than 200 kilometers of roads, including the first flyover in the state, in Ilé-Ifè. It also worked to alleviate traffic problems in Osogbo by building a dual carriageway and two more flyovers.
The party also emphasized Adeleke’s attempts to develop a free health insurance program for retirees and people with disabilities, as well as to pay billions of naira in wage arrears to the state workforce.

The party further pointed out that more than 200 health centers had been renovated and equipped by Adeleke’s administration to meet the requirements of the people at the local level.
“If Odeyemi cannot acknowledge these strides, it is clear he is blinded by political bitterness,” the statement read in part.
Additionally, they clarified that Adeleke will not let political criticism deter him from his efforts to improve Osun.
Political rivalry between the NNPP and PDP is growing as the 2026 election draws near, with both parties vying for control of Osun State’s future leadership.
