The PDP Northern Support Group has officially endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as its preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The decision by the PDP Northern support group was announced in a communiqué following the group’s 8th meeting held between Wednesday and Thursday in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
In the communiqué, jointly signed by the group’s Northern Coordinator, Yusuf Abubakar, and North-West Zonal Secretary, Adamu Narayi, Jonathan was described as the best candidate to restore party unity and promote national cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP Northern support group, made up of PDP loyalists and support groups from all 19 northern states, also expressed strong confidence in the leadership of acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, praising his efforts to foster reconciliation within the party.
The PDP Northern group called on Damagum to take firm disciplinary measures against members accused of anti-party activities, alleging that some party leaders are sabotaging the reconciliation process by collaborating with the ruling APC.
The PDP Northern group affirmed that the PDP continues to enjoy robust grassroots support across the North and urged members to unite and strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The coalition dismissed concerns regarding Jonathan’s eligibility to run again, asserting that the issue has been resolved and should not serve as a distraction for the party.
The PDP Northern group pledged unwavering loyalty to the PDP and expressed confidence that, through collective effort, the party can regain power at both the national and state levels in 2027.
