PDP Sweeps Osun LG Polls, Wins All 362 Seats!

The victorious candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the local government elections of Osun state have been announced. They bagged the victory at the 30 LGAs and all of the 323 wards.

This was made known by Hashim Abioye, the chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) after the exercise on Saturday.

The whole activity happened in line with the constitutional provisions and extant law, regulations and guidelines. This election was based on filling the vacancies existing in the 332 wards in Osun state and 30 local government areas.

The election was contested by 18 political parties and results have been submitted to the commission. The available results as obtained from the field, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 332 wards emerged as winners.

“For the 30 local government areas, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party cleared all seats.”

This, the commission, did on the basis of a judgement by an Osun State High Court in Ilesa, which ordered the electoral agency to conduct elections for the vacant positions of chairmen and councillors in the 30 LGAs.

The exercise commenced as early as 8am on Saturday in some parts of the LGAs across all 30 councils in the South West state, including Ede North LGA, where Governor Ademola Adeleke cast his vote.

In a very peaceful and civic exercise, the governor described the event.

“The exercise has been very peaceful, I made a broadcast to my good people of Osun State that this election should be peaceful, there should be no violence because Osun State is a very peaceful state,” he said.
