In a statement released on Monday, the group’s Secretary General, Alhaji Kabiru Gwamlar, voiced alarm over the government’s silence following deadly attacks in Wase and Kanam local government areas, where more than 70 vigilante members were reportedly killed and several villages destroyed.

The Muslim Indigenes also accused Governor Mutfwang of displaying selective empathy by not visiting the affected Muslim communities or offering condolences to the bereaved families.

Gwamlar wondered why Gov. Mutfwang is always quick to condemn attacks on Christians but is slow to react or give “belated and half-hearted” speeches when Muslims are the victims.

He called on the Governor to remember the promise he made to protect all citizens and residents of the state irrespective of their tribe and religion.

He also condemned what he described as a long-held perception that Plateau is a Christian state, saying that in a secular country like Nigeria, no state is an exclusive enclave of one religion, as Muslims, Christians, and traditional religious worshippers have the right to practice their religion anywhere they find themselves.

He gave kudos to the past administration of former Governor Simon Lalong, whom he described as being Muslim-friendly, and urged Mutfwang to emulate his predecessor and carry everyone along.
