Barau Jibrin, the deputy president of the Senate, has stated that northern Nigerians should support President Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election because of his contributions to the development of the area.
Barau commended President Tinubu for his dedication to human capital development and education during a speech on Monday at an event in Kano.
He claimed that the new university where the event was held was one of several new colleges and universities in northern Nigeria that the President had approved.

“We are here today to celebrate the establishment of this new university and to give financial support to our students,” Barau said.
“We must also thank President Tinubu, who approved the creation of this university and signed all the necessary laws to make it a reality.”
The senator clarified that the organisation was once a Federal College of Education, changed to a university under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, and then demoted by the previous administration.

“When I became Deputy Senate President, I took the proposal for the restoration of the university to President Tinubu. Before I could even finish explaining, he immediately gave his approval,” Barau said.
He continued by saying that President Tinubu also gave his approval for the institution to be named in honour of the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, a well-known statesman and Nigeria’s former UN representative.
According to Barau, the North should back Tinubu for reelection in 2027 in order to thank him for his good actions, since the region has profited significantly from his leadership.
