Former presidential aide and political analyst Reno Omokri has begun a manhunt for two social media users who are accused of threatening to kill Peter Obi’s family, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party. The threats were posted on X (previously Twitter), and Omokri offered a reward of ₦3 million for information that may help identify the people behind them.

A user using by the handle “@olorilAlayiuwa” allegedly issued the first threat in a now deleted tweet when she posted a picture of a woman wearing traditional clothing with the words, “You see this woman? She and her kids will be buried by P.O. Many others took the message to be a threat against Margaret Obi, Obi’s wife, and their kids.

Reno Omokri has promised to pay ₦1.5 million for information that will help identify the person responsible for each threat. He said that in order to maintain openness, the Catholic Church’s Reverend Emmanuel Ojeifo Omokugbo will supervise the validation of all data and manage the reward distribution. Additionally, Omokri has pledged to keep informants’ identities private.

Recalling previous threats against his own family, including one against his daughter, who was one year old at the time, Reno Omokri claimed that the endeavour was personal. He stressed the need to create a more civil political environment and maintained that political disputes should never turn into threats or harassment.

Takin to his x handle, Reno Omokri wrote

“Dear Citizens,

I am now upping the reward to ₦1.5 million each for information regarding the true identities of the person who made the initial threat (₦1.5 million) and the one who made the subsequent threat against Mrs. Margaret Obi and her children (₦1.5 million)

He who feels it knows it. My family and I have been the recipients of multiple death threats because of my political affiliations, and I am determined to put an end to this in Nigeria’s political space.

I have paid the funds to Reverend Emmanuel Ojeifo Omokugbo of the Catholic Church, who will monitor the comment section. Once your information is verified, you will be paid.”

This action has been applauded by many as a step towards holding internet threats accountable, however many have questioned Reno Omokri’s intentions and accused him of selective indignation.

Reno Omokri followed this reaffirmed that his actions are intended to lessen poisonous debate in Nigeria’s political scene, notwithstanding the uproar surrounding the program. He has urged everyone to help find the criminals and make sure they are prosecuted. The manhunt is still going on as of July 1, 2025.
