Rep. Member Arrested by Police for Attacking a Bolt Driver
Alex Mascot Ikwechegh “is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning,” according to Josephine Adeh, the Command’s police spokesperson.
Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver, reported the issue to the Command, according to a statement released by the Command on Monday.
The member of the House of Representatives was seen slapping the Bolt driver in a now-viral video.
On behalf of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ikwechegh represents the Aba North & South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber.
The footage showed an enraged Ikwechegh lounging in his compound somewhere in the FCT on Sunday night while wearing casual clothing.

According to the exchange captured in the widely shared video, the lawmaker had placed an order for some snails from a vendor who hired an e-hailing app driver to deliver the items.
When Stephen Abuwatseya, the Bolt driver, showed up at the lawmaker’s house and demanded payment, a furious argument broke out.
One could hear an enraged Ikwechegh on the phone with the merchant.
“How can this dumb fool approach me and tell me that I need to pick up a snail I’m purchasing from you in his car? The congressman yelled to the speaker on the opposite side, “I can make this man disappear in all of Nigeria and nothing will happen.”
Ikwechegh turned to Abuwatseya after speaking with the snail vendor on the phone and declared, “You will not receive a single penny from me with this degree of disrespect.” I will take care of you, and you will suffer.
The APGA politician delivered on his warning by giving the driver, who remained calm despite the attack, two slaps on the cheeks.
The Bolt driver questioned, “Are you slapping me, sir?” to get a sense that he had been slapped.
I just did; give me a slap in return. “How dare you?” the lawmaker shot back.
“Do you give me three slaps, sir?”
“Two, the third will be given to you shortly.”
“My name is Honourable Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, I am a member of the House of Representatives, tell them,” the politician said to the driver after being informed that the incident was being recorded. Make a call to the Inspector General of Police and allow him to visit.
Spirited Outrage
Many Nigerians on the internet have called for justice to be done in the case, but Ikwechegh and the House of Representatives have not issued a statement regarding the incident.
