The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State officially welcomed Labour Party’s 2023 governorship candidate, Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, into its ranks on Saturday, describing his defection as a significant milestone in the party’s efforts to build coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ceremony, held in Alimosho Local Government Area, was attended by party leaders, supporters, and political stakeholders who praised the move as a key step toward uniting the opposition in Lagos and beyond.
In his welcome speech, Lagos ADC Chairman Mr. George Ashiru emphasized that Rhodes-Vivour’s inclusion represented more than just an individual joining the party; it was a powerful boost to a growing political movement.
“We are not affirming one man; we are affirming a movement. What Rhodes-Vivour represents is the leadership of a movement that shook Lagos in the last election. The coalition did not start three months ago, it began two years ago, and today we are celebrating it,” Ashiru declared.

He added that ADC’s vision was to promote inclusivity and opportunities for all residents, saying: “Our goal is to build a global Lagos, a Lagos for everybody, where citizens and their children can find opportunities for the future.”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also sent a message of solidarity to the ADC family.
Represented at the event by Professor Ola Olateju, Atiku commended the coalition-building drive, describing the ADC as more than just another political party.
“ADC is not just a political party; it is a movement of the people. With this philosophy, anybody can become anything irrespective of ethnic group, religion, or class,” Atiku’s message read.
