Rivers crisis: PDP escalating political tensions, endangering Nigeria – Okechukwu.

Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), stated on Sunday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is responsible for escalating political tensions in Nigeria and putting the Country at risk.
He accused the PDP of fueling political unrest, particularly the Rivers State crisis, and warned against the dangers of transitioning into a one-party system.

In a signed statement, the former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON) emphasized that the PDP should humble itself, step down from its perceived superiority and issue a sincere apology to Nigerians for the unintended consequences of its action.
Okechukwu cautioned against forgetting past events, emphasizing that the discord within the PDP leadership during the 2023 presidential primary election sparked division and intensified tensions between the North and South.
He further stated that curbing impunity is key to national progress. According to him, if the PDP had respected democratic principles and adhered to section 7 of its constitution, the “Wike Masquerade” situation would have not risen.
Addressing concerns that the APC might be exploiting PDP’s internal conflicts to push Nigeria toward one-party system, Okechukwu argued that those who disregarded the rotational agreement which serves as a unifying factor between the North and South are the real proponents of a one-party state.
He said: “Otherwise Nigeria operates multiparty system by law, it is only the fire stoked by PDP, that is raging. They erroneously misunderstood the sophisticated northern electorates, assumed they were in dormitory to be hauled to polling stations on election day to vote for northern candidate.
“These are illiberal elements fast eroding our multiparty system. They’re at it again to stop rotation convention with an awkward presidency arithmetic of 17 years south and 11 years north by 2027, as if Nigeria got independence in 1999.
“Finally Okechukwu submitted that if PDP had adhered to rule of law and subsisting rotation convention, maybe Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso votes could have been theirs in 2023 presidential election.”
