The Rivers State Government has refuted claims that the state’s only administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), summoned suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu.
Dede Friday, the Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, released a statement on Wednesday in which the administration described the reports as malicious, false, and an intentional attempt to mislead the public and create fear.
“The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government,” the statement read.
“One such fake announcement falsely claims that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to a meeting at the Government House on Friday, April 18, 2025.”

The state government cautioned the public against disseminating unconfirmed information and emphasized that no such summons was sent.
Residents and media organizations were advised by the statement to only use official channels of communication, such as the State Government website (www.riversstate.gov.ng), verified social media sites like the official State Government Facebook page, official press releases from the SSG and the Governor’s Office, and authorized traditional media outlets.

“The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is fake and did not originate from any official source. The public is urged to disregard this and similar misinformation, as they are the work of troublemakers seeking to destabilise the state,” it added.
