Controversial Sheikh Gumi, an Islamic scholar from Kaduna, was deported back to Nigeria after travelling to Saudi Arabia to complete the Hajj in 2025.
In a post on his Facebook page on Monday morning, Sheikh Gumi verified this, stating that some of his opinions about Nigerian politics were to blame for the event.

Sheikh Gumi claims that despite being given a visa by the Saudi authorities to perform the Hajj, he was not permitted to enter Medina to start performing his religious obligations.
“Due to some reasons related to my views on world politics, the authorities in Saudi Arabia do not want me to be present at Hajj even though they have granted me a visa,” Gumi stated on Facebook.
Following this, the Islamic cleric has revealed that Nigerian authorities had promised to bring up the matter with Saudi authorities right away. He urged people to pray for Nigeria’s peace and prosperity as well as the safe return of other pilgrims.
Sheikh Gumi’s Facebook post read: “Alhamdullilahi I’ve already completed my Hajj 2025 and I’m at home in our beloved country Nigeria. Allah said in Q2/196: ‘And accomplish the Hajj i.e. pilgrimage and the Umra for Allah, but if you are prevented, (slaughter) the offering available with you (meaning, you are then free from Hajj or Umra).’

“For some obvious reasons, my views about world politics, the Saudi authorities are uncomfortable about my presence in the Hajj after giving me the Hajj visa. Thanks to the Nigerian authorities, who have pledged to take up the matter immediately with the Saudi authorities. That is the value of our cherished freedom and democracy.
“I’m now free to attend to my health and farming activities. We should continue to pray for the safe return of all pilgrims, peace and prosperity for our dear nation.”
