Senate Deputy President Appeals for Prayers, Unity as Nigeria Turns 64″
As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence Anniversary, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, is urging Nigerians to come together in prayer and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Representing Kano North in the Senate, Barau called on citizens to not only pray for the country’s progress but also reconsider any planned protests during the national celebration on October 1.
Barau’s heartfelt plea emphasizes the importance of unity and patience as Nigeria navigates challenging times. He believes that with the right support and collective effort, President Tinubu’s government can turn things around for the better. Reflecting on the sacrifices made by Nigeria’s founding fathers—figures like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa—Barau encouraged citizens to remain committed to ideals such as national unity, peace, justice, and tolerance.
Acknowledging the difficulties the country is facing, from economic hardship to security concerns, Barau expressed confidence in the government’s ability to overcome these challenges. “Yes, at 64, we face some challenges as a country, but we will overcome them by God’s grace,” he said. He urged Nigerians to give President Tinubu the necessary support, stating that the administration is working hard to improve the economy and ensure the safety of citizens.
The Deputy Senate President also reassured the public that the Tenth Senate, under the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio, is committed to good governance and will work hand in hand with the executive branch to ensure that policies and programs aimed at reviving the country are successful. He highlighted the importance of constitutional amendments currently being worked on by the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, which he chairs. These amendments are expected to make Nigeria’s governance framework more inclusive and responsive to the needs of its citizens.
In a gesture of support for the North West region, Barau praised President Tinubu’s appointment of the Governing Board for the North West Development Commission (NWDC). This move, he said, shows the president’s dedication to tackling the region’s specific challenges, including insecurity and underdevelopment.
As Nigeria marks 64 years of independence, Barau’s message is one of hope and resilience. He encourages Nigerians to remain hopeful and continue praying for the country’s progress, confident that with unity and collective effort, the nation will emerge stronger.
