The plan by Engineer Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, to renovate the state government house with N63.5 billion has been met resistance and with mixed reactions.

Originally called Oke Ebo, Agodi Government House was built during the colonial era.

It has served as the official residence of governors – civilian or military, who had governed the state in the past, from the defunct Western Region of Nigeria, Western State, old Oyo State and present Oyo State.

Governor Seyi Makinde has declared his intention to refurbish the government residence. The Governor disclosed this at a recent gathering in the state capital of Ibadan.

While delivering an address at the Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde pointed out that Oyo State has developed into an investment destination thanks to a number of policies the state government has put in place and its straightforward approach to resolving complicated governance issues.

Speaking to the debates around the proposed reconstruction of the Oyo State Government House, he clarified that the perceived high cost of the project is caused by a number of variables, including the volatility of foreign currencies.

Governor Seyi Makinde added that the Government House and the nearby chalets’ structures, roads, and other auxiliary facilities are anticipated to be rebuilt as part of the project.

However, according to reports gathered, some stakeholders in the state have been utterly displeased by the governor’s remarks.

The Oyo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), advised the governor to reverse his decision.
